Loratadine belongs to a group of drugs called antihistamines which help to relieve the symptoms of some allergies. It is used to relieve symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose and burning, itchy eyes due to hayfever and other allergies. Loratadine tablets can also be taken to relieve symptoms due to urticaria (hives) such as rash, itching and redness.


The active substance (the ingredient that makes the tablet work) is loratadine. Each tablet contains 10mg of loratadine. The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose (E460), maize starch, magnesium stearate.

Adults (including the elderly) and children over 12 years of age: One tablet once daily

Children 2 to 12 years of age:

Bodyweight over 30kg: One tablet once daily.
Bodyweight under 30kg: Not recommended.

Children aged less than 2 years: Not recommended

Patients with serious liver problems:
Adults and children with a bodyweight over 30kg: One tablet every other day.
Children with a bodyweight of 30kg or less: A more suitable dosage form e.g. oral solution, should be taken.

  • Do not store above 25°C.
  • Always keep out of sight and reach of children. 
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

Loratadine has side effects, just like all medicines, but not everyone will experience them. The most common side effects in adults and children over 12 include:

  • Drowsiness
  • Increased appetite
  • Headaches
  • Difficulty sleeping.

The most common side effects in children under 12 are:

  • Headache.
  • Nervousness.
  • Tiredness.

If you or your child experience any of these side effects, speak to your doctor or pharmacist. If you experience difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, neck, tongue, or throat while taking Loratadine 10mg Loratadine tablets, this could be a severe allergic reaction. If this happens, stop taking this medicine and see a doctor immediately.
